Viridian’s book collection effort for Africa is being hailed as a huge success as Associates and others donated more than 6,000 books to the recent drive.
“We’re very gratified by the strong response we’ve gotten to our book collection effort,” said Hannah Wells, Sustainability Coordinator for Viridian. “Associates from every state came through for us, donating bags and boxes of books that we’ll be shipping to Africa in early spring. We’ve been touched by everyone’s generosity.”
Many Associates brought their books to the recent Super Regional in Atlantic City, NJ. We had others who organized local drops and either sorted and packed the books themselves or made a special trip to the company’s Norwalk, CT, headquarters to drop off their collections.
The drive was initially undertaken to help stock the library in Asunafo, Ghana, where a number of Associates and corporate team members will be installing solar power in the community in February as part of Viridian’s “7 Continents in 7 Years” program. But due the book collection’s enormous success, Viridian has chosen to expand its donation and partner with the African Library Project to sponsor multiple libraries on the continent. As a result of this partnership, we will be supporting libraries in Botswana and Swaziland, as well as Ghana.
