America Go Solar

Solar

America is going solar and now you can too.

Viridian and SolarCity make the cleanest energy simple

Do you want to save money on your energy bill and do something great for the planet? Are you a homeowner with a mostly sunny roof facing south, east or west? Then you owe it to yourself to consider going solar, and Viridian gives you the power to do it – yes, even those of you in the often gray and rainy Northeast. Better than that, we make it easy.

Through our new partnership with SolarCity, America’s leading solar provider, you get:

  • Free installation
  • Included maintenance at no additional cost for the life of your contract. That includes any necessary repairs or replacements. (Which, you should know, are not a common occurrence: Today’s solar systems are designed to withstand extremes of wind and weather)
  • Locked-in low rates that can be significantly less than you pay your utility now
  • No paperwork: SolarCity will take care of all permitting and arrangements with your utility

The truth is, going solar may be one of the smartest things you can do as a homeowner because it can increase your home’s resale value. And as utility prices go up, your savings grow. Visit www.AmericaGoSolar.com

Getting more money out of your refrigerator and freezer

Getting more money out of your refrigerator and freezer

Getting more money out of your refrigerator and freezerWhen it comes to introducing energy efficient solutions into the home, some of the most beneficial will include updating your refrigerators and freezers, as well as taking a few steps to ensure these appliances are operating at their most efficient level.
According to the Wisconsin Energy Group, choosing the right refrigerator/freezer combo can significantly lower energy costs. To start, choose an Energy Star model. This is as simple as searching for the easily identifiable Energy Star symbol. It's also important to choose the right size refrigerator. Buying a product larger than necessary can result in serious energy waste.
Using a second refrigerator or freezer is also a major detriment on energy costs. A second appliance can raise energy bills by as much as $120 per year. If you need two refrigerators to accommodate a large number of guests, such as around the holidays, only plug it in during these times.
The Department of Energy states that it is also important to replace your refrigerator if it is more than 10 years old. These models consume much more energy than current products. An Energy Star refrigerator uses roughly half of the energy as a comparable model made a decade ago.

Day one of Intersolar North America focuses on state of the industry

Day one of Intersolar North America focuses on state of the industryIntersolar North America kicked off July 9 in San Francisco, and Renewable Energy World reported that the first day's presenters addressed the “titanic shift” that occurred within the solar industry over the course of the year.
This past year has seen a number of solar manufacturers go bankrupt, most notably big industry player Solyndra. The plant closures and bankruptcies spurred concern over the effectiveness of the Obama administration’s clean energy agenda, with many debating the future of the solar industry even with record growth around the world.
Tom Cheyney with Impress Labs presented on the first day of Intersolar. He acknowledged the difficulties that manufacturers have had, faced with a glut in the market and the availability of low-cost product from China, but he said that the difficulties are a natural part of the industry's maturation.
“There’s a word for it. It’s called carnage,” he said of the closures, adding, “And that goes for any industry with growth like solar.”
Two of the first presenters at the conference, Chase Weir of Distributed Sun and Sanjay Shrestha of Lazard Capital, maintained that the future of solar is bright, and that in order to realize the full potential of solar power, there is a necessary attitude shift and a need for a re-examination of market mechanisms. Weir pointed to the need for more access to capital and fewer major manufacturers.
Intersolar North America continues with the conference through July 12, with exhibitions beginning July 10. The goal of INA is to provide a forum that will allow insight into the North American solar market, gathering companies from around the globe to share their knowledge and experiences in an effort to fuel the implementation of this green energy source.

Green energy within reach for many consumers
Homeowners, even those who live in states without energy deregulation, are likely able to afford solar power, according to a recent article from Travis Hoium on behalf of financial company The Motley Fool.
"Solar power is no longer something only wealthy, eco-conscious homeowners can afford," wrote Hoium. "It's now within reach for most electricity users in the U.S., and it may make financial sense for you to switch."
The costs of solar power have continued to drop, with both solar installations and the power created from the panels sometimes costing even less than other panels. Some solar panels are selling for as little as $1 per panel, and installation costs are just as reasonable.
According to the Solar Power Authority, solar panel-produced electricity costs an average of 10 cents per kilowatt-hour. However, electricity-sucking devices like hot tubs can produce occasional spikes in these estimates. These costs also vary dramatically depending on an individual's state of residence. According to The Motley Fool, solar projects in California are selling for as low as $0.089 per kilowatt-hour.

Since it began in the late 1990s, deregulation of energy has created opportunity throughout the marketplace.

Since it began in the late 1990s, deregulation of energy has created opportunity throughout the marketplace.

Deregulation allows consumers to choose where they buy their power, much as they can choose their long-distance company. This choice creates a competitive marketplace in which each energy company is working to provide the best product. Creating competition drives prices down and improves quality.

Our product
Viridian Energy is proud to stand out among its competitors by offering an affordable product that meets or exceeds the proposed 2020 federal environmental goal of 20% renewable energy.

It's safe and reliable energy
Under deregulation, each part of your energy service is broken down into separate pieces that are provided by different companies. Delivery of the electricity to your home as well as all necessary service is still provided by your utility, making it possible for you to still have safe and reliable electricity in your home. Electric suppliers like Viridian are licensed by state and federal agencies and are not in competition with the local utility. The local utility does not make any money on the energy, only on the delivery and service of electricity, so the utility company supports customers who choose to switch suppliers. We provide greener energy to the grid and your utility delivers that energy to your home or business. It's that simple. All this adds up to a perfect reason for you to exercise your choice to select the best supplier for your electricity.

It's up to you
Deregulation means you can shop around to find the product that's best for you. You have a choice. Why wouldn't you make the choice that saves you money and helps the environment? You can make a difference for your family and the environment with Viridian.
