Sustainability could be great for education

Sustainability could be great for education

Sustainability could be great for educationEveryone wants to see their kids get the best education possible, and that could result in greater environmental sustainability for schools, according to The Guardian. The news source said the U.K. Department of Education's Framework for the National Curriculum report aims to promote the understanding of sustainability and stewardship of local resources as well as helping personal development so each student can be more balanced and healthy moving forward.
"Children and young people growing up and attending school today will become the business leaders of the future, people who will have to tackle environmental and social issues on a level that is currently unrecognized or at least swept under the carpet," The Guardian said. "It is a huge challenge but one that other nations are addressing and one that our current government needs to square up to."
The report said the agency believes education should be stressing personal development to allow students to have a greater understanding of their surrounding world.
Adding to this, The Guardian said the business case for this is that children who develop an appreciation for sustainable practices in school have more potential for achievement and should have more key skills that could be useful when they get into the business world.

Join us At the Cambridge Innovation Center

Dear friends,
Dear conscious minds!

You are invited to the Cambridge Innovation Center to attend an event: "Educating on a greener solutions". The workshop presented by Viridian Company which offers high-quality and affordable renewable energy products that are better for the environment.

Many states have already adopted Renewable Portfolio Standards, which require electricity suppliers and utilities to source a minimum amount of their electricity from clean energy sources.

Viridian exceeds this requirement by at least 20% in each state in which they operate.

Viridian Sustainability Initiative is a pledge to empower customers and associates to take part in Viridinan's mission to improve the world and the communities in which we live. The Initiative provides resources and opportunities for service and involvement in many projects targeted to protect and preserve our world.

Many of our members already joined Viridian, and will be glad to greet you and share their experiences.

Two guests speakers are coming from NY and NJ:
Johnny LoPresto and Louis Di Donato.

During this workshop you will learn about greener electricity and affordable prices, and how to start a business that creates long-term residual income, and of course, meet like-minded people, and make new friends!

PS Free attendance.
When you will arrive to CIC at the main lobby, please state that you are going to visit Europeans In Boston, a workshop in HAVANA ROOM, 4 TH FLOOR.

SOLAR PLANTS CREATE JOBS

SOLAR PLANTS CREATE JOBS

Solar plants create jobs
The U.S. economy has experienced a great deal of turmoil in recent years, with many Americans spending months or even years on unemployment while competing for fewer jobs in a contracting marketplace. Green energy, however, has given many individuals a second chance to make a living.
Three members of the Starr family lost their jobs at a window and door manufacturing plant in 2008, according to a recent article from Suntech Power. The mother, father and son, all qualified employees in the manufacturing business, have found work in a local solar plant.
“Solar is still in its infancy as far as the world is concerned,” Mike Starr told Suntech. “It’s a huge growth industry that’s making a tangible impact on a better future.”
The solar industry remains largely untapped in terms of an employment options. One common misconception is that the industry only provides career opportunities for those with an engineering or technical background, yet the industry has a number of positions for individuals with marketing, sales and IT backgrounds as well. However, because most solar manufacturers are still largely "under the radar," searching for job postings may take a little more effort than traditional job offerings. However, this may also mean less competition for job seekers, and so can provide a great opportunity for those willing to look.

Green roof built for NY Post Office

Green roof built for NY Post Office

Green roof built for NY Post Office
The U.S. Postal Service recently unveiled an 11,300-square-foot green roof installation in upstate New York, its second green roof to date, reported Environmental Leader.
The green roof construction consisted of verifying the soundness to support extra weight, fitting the roof with a new membrane, and installing layers of drainage sheet, mat, separation fabric, indigenous vegetation and a wind blanket.
The roof is expected to last roughly 50 years, and it will reduce the amount of contaminants in storm water runoff flowing into the municipal water system. The USPS said the roof should “help the post office reduce energy use and associated greenhouse gas emissions.”
While the USPS sustainability report released on June 25 does show that the organization's carbon emissions rose 0.7 percent from 2010 to 2011 despite a decline in revenue, USPS is making other strides toward sustainability, with a target goal of cutting energy use by 30 percent by 2015. The green roof installation is part of the USPS’s “greener facilities strategy,” which incorporates the use of environmentally friendly building components and renewable materials, the installation of energy efficient lighting and HVAC systems, and the use of low-water fixtures in facilities, with some photovoltaic systems incorporation.

Go Green with bamboo

Go Green with bamboo

Go green with bambooBamboo: It's not just for pandas anymore. Although the plant has been a staple of construction and design in many Asian nations for thousands of years, Americans are just beginning to realize the many potential uses for the exotic shoots.
"Since bamboo is the fastest growing plant on earth and a sustainable building material, it could easily substitute all known wood applications without having to cut down entire bamboo groves or plantations," Guadua Bamboo, a bamboo nursery and furniture shop, wrote on its website. "Better yet, bamboo continuously grows after harvest without having to re-plant it. Bamboo also converts about 35 percent more CO2 into oxygen than a regular tree."
Bamboo flooring is both a beautiful design accent to a home and is also a great way to show a love for sustainability. Phys.org recently reported on a school in Bali that is made completely out of bamboo. Featuring an arching roof with a number of skylights, the school is one of many buildings on the island that uses bamboo as its primary building material. A local chocolate factory was even made from the wood!
Utensils, cutting boards, bedding sheets and even strainers can be made from bamboo as well.

Green energy within reach for many consumers

Green energy within reach for many consumers
Homeowners, even those who live in states without energy deregulation, are likely able to afford solar power, according to a recent article from Travis Hoium on behalf of financial company The Motley Fool.
"Solar power is no longer something only wealthy, eco-conscious homeowners can afford," wrote Hoium. "It's now within reach for most electricity users in the U.S., and it may make financial sense for you to switch."
The costs of solar power have continued to drop, with both solar installations and the power created from the panels sometimes costing even less than other panels. Some solar panels are selling for as little as $1 per panel, and installation costs are just as reasonable.
According to the Solar Power Authority, solar panel-produced electricity costs an average of 10 cents per kilowatt-hour. However, electricity-sucking devices like hot tubs can produce occasional spikes in these estimates. These costs also vary dramatically depending on an individual's state of residence. According to The Motley Fool, solar projects in California are selling for as low as $0.089 per kilowatt-hour.

Deregulation of energy

Deregulation of energy

About Deregulation
Since it began in the late 1990s, deregulation of energy has created opportunity throughout the marketplace.
Deregulation allows consumers to choose where they buy their power, much as they can choose their long-distance company. This choice creates a competitive marketplace in which each energy company is working to provide the best product. Creating competition drives prices down and improves quality.

Our product

Viridian Energy is proud to stand out among its competitors by offering an affordable product that meets or exceeds the proposed 2020 federal environmental goal of 20% renewable energy.

It's safe and reliable energy

Under deregulation, each part of your energy service is broken down into separate pieces that are provided by different companies. Delivery of the electricity to your home as well as all necessary service is still provided by your utility, making it possible for you to still have safe and reliable electricity in your home. Electric suppliers like Viridian are licensed by state and federal agencies and are not in competition with the local utility. The local utility does not make any money on the energy, only on the delivery and service of electricity, so the utility company supports customers who choose to switch suppliers. We provide greener energy to the grid and your utility delivers that energy to your home or business. It's that simple. All this adds up to a perfect reason for you to exercise your choice to select the best supplier for your electricity.

It's up to you

Deregulation means you can shop around to find the product that's best for you. You have a choice. Why wouldn't you make the choice that saves you money and helps the environment? You can make a difference for your family and the environment with Viridian Energy MA.
